| Description | Dear Friend, With this I send you: An account of the debts proved under the commission of bankruptcy against me in England, on which a dividend of 1s. in the £ has been paid. An account of the claims that have been made, under which I have stated that it is not probable that any can be proved so as to entitle them to dividends except Adam and Thomas Fairholme and Coney & Wilson. Under which I have stated that the cash in hand 29 September 1797 was £6036. 0. 4½. On the other side I have stated that £4498 13. 7 will pay 1/6 in £ to all the debts that can be entitled to dividends. And at the bottom I have stated some remarks why other claims will not be entitled to dividends. And I have sent you copy of a letter I wrote to Mr. Nicholls the 20th ultimo, and of his answer. By these states you will see the outlines of my affairs under the commission of bankruptcy. Mr. Hog determines to attempt to prove his claim. I heartily wish it may be soon brought to issue, that a dividend may be made of so much as it would be proper to part with. I am ever gratefully and affectionately yours, Samuel Garbett
With the letter is a sheet of accounts, as described above and two copy letters, below.
Copy letter. Samuel Garbett [Birmingham] to Nathaniel Nicholls (Odiham). 21 May 1798. Copy letter. Nathaniel Nicholls (Odiham) to Samuel Garbett [Birmingham]. 23 May 1798. (Two transcripts on one sheet, by Garbett.)
