| Description | [Dated Saturday night.]
Dear Friend, I have a long ensnaring letter from Mr. Henderson dated the 6th current, which requires an immediate answer and very great caution. I sometime since wrote to Mr. Gascoigne, and now the gentlemen in Scotland have thought proper likewise to treat with Mr. William Elphinston on the subject. I will send you copies of my letters and of Mr. Gascoigne's, but I will not now resign the treaty with him. Many important points are agitating in Scotland in consequence of Mr. Selkrig's claim of preference to the title of my creditors under the commission of bankruptcy against me, which I expect will next week be determined by the Court of Session. I defer writing more at present as my best attention is not sufficient to acquit myself as I wish, but I hope you will think proper to write to Mr. Henderson to the following tenor: viz. the trust reposed in me as assignee for Mr. Garbett's creditors, who are materially interested in Mr. Gascoigne's discharge, renders it necessary I should have an opportunity of knowing their sentiments before I give my answer. The death of Mr. Hog is an unlucky circumstance. God bless and preserve you. I am ever affectionately and gratefully your Samuel Garbett
