| Description | Dear Friend, With this I return the letter you received from Messrs. Nicholls & Nettleshipp, and from Mr. Barker. On Saturday afternoon the 8th inst. I also received a letter from Mr. Barker, to the same tenor as his letter to you, which I answered on Sunday; that gentleman knows that I do not oppose the dividend which Mr. Hog offers to make to him and other creditors as usual. I have several times wrote to Mr. Hog that I earnestly wished him to divide any money in his hands, or that he might receive as dividends upon Carron stock standing in the name of Charles Gascoigne in the manner he had hitherto done, and that I was sure my personal creditors would consent thereto in writing upon condition that it did not deprive them of their right to claim on any money that might be raised by the sale of Carron stock. I have copies making of my correspondence with Mr. Hog since the meeting of my creditors in London, which I shall be glad to have you go thro' with me when you can spare one quiet hour. During your absence in London I have obtained Mr. Hog's attention (so far) to Carron Company as to get their account of what stands under my name in their books, which, tho' not stated entirely to my satisfaction, exhibits on that Company's authority such a view of my affairs as demonstrate the importance of my exertions to protect the property of my creditors-a review of which affords me great consolation, as it is evidently the consequence of my perseverance in a severe struggle with Charles Gascoigne, Mr. Anderson his trustee, Carron Co., and Mr. Hog upon the whole for 26 years. I have wrote to Mr. Barker that Mr. Hog has now sent me such accounts as shew the situation of my affairs are much better than he seemed to conceive at the London meeting, and that I should be glad upon receiving two or three days' previous notice to lay them before him, Mr. Capper, Doctor Gilby, and Doctor Simpson, or &c., &c., God bless you. I am ever affectionately and gratefully yours, Samuel Garbett |
