| Description | My dear Sir, Mrs. S. Turner has communicated to me the affectionate note you were so kind as to write to her. The friendship you deigned to honor my grandfather with, has been one of the greatest comforts of his old age, and his family can never forget the many affectionate obligations they are under to you. By his will dated the 24th February 1800 he has left you a legacy of £20 in the following words: 'I give and bequeath to my worthy friends Matthew Boulton, Esqr., and to James Alston, button-maker of Birmingham, and John Wiggin, merchant of London, the sum of twenty pounds each as a small acknowledgement of the many important and affectionate obligations I am under to them.' My grandfather is to be buried to-morrow morning, and you may be assured Soho will be the first place where I shall pay my compliments. I am, with the greatest respect, dear sir, most faithfully yours, J. Walsham G. |
