Dear Sir
I am sorry to inform you that the word TheSsaliarcha does not exist either in Greek or Latin.-It should be Thalassiarcha, but I doubt whether the more usual title of Class. Brit. Imp. (i e Commander of the British fleet) would not be less obnoxious to objections.
In order to avoid the censure of the Minor Critics, I wish it we[re] in your power to alter the Ins[cription;] if you cannot, I think you should not publish the Medal as it now stands, or your reputation as a classical scholar will stand a bad chance & may influence upon your future performances.
I cannot help feeling much regret at passing Sentence of Condemnation upon the finist Medal which ever was struck in this Country, but if there is no other remedy-I think it should be engraved once more.
