| Description | Death of John Hodges. Request for Chippindall to assist at Soho with the settlement of the Plate Company accounts.
Soho, September 5th, 1808. Dear Sir, The intelligence which you have occasionally recieved of poor Mr. Hodges' illness will have prepared you in some measure for the melancholy issue of it. He expired yesterday noon, not in much pain, but apparently senseless. He was not impresssed with an adequate idea of the danger at the commencement of his illness, and the rapidity of the attack left him no time to make preparations for meeting the event of it. The business, however, will not suffer any material interruption, tho' in regard to the accounts and other matters immediately under his management, much is in arrears. In settling the accounts I shall stand in need of your assistance; and, as Mrs. Hodges is anxious to see you, if you can arrange your affairs in town so as to come down, I should wish you to do it at your earliest convenience. It may probably be a consolation to Mrs. Hodges to have you take up you abode as usual; or otherwise you will find a well aired bed at Soho ready for you. I am, dear sir, Yours truly, M. Robn.
