Date1802 - 1818
DescriptionThe contents of this file were formerly in a portfolio (205) labelled:
cF4 / M R Boulton J Watt & Co / Jn Mosley / Jn Robinson.
from 1802 / to-1818 / inclusive
It is not clear where the file was placed at the time of Matthew Robinson Boulton's arrangement, but by 1821 it was in Box K. II.
The file contains Matthew Robinson Boulton's correspondence with two of the agents of the London House-John Mosley and John Robinson. There is also a single letter from John Woodward (1), but the rest of Woodward's correspondence is in separate files. The incoming letters were all written at the London office (13 London Street, Fenchurch Street) and most of them were addressed to Boulton himself, but a few were directed to both M. R. Boulton and James Watt Jr. or to M. R. Boulton, J. Watt, & Co. There are also a few letters to Zaccheus Walker Jr., and William D. Brown, which were passed on to Boulton.
Two documents have been transferred to this file, having apparently been misfiled: 106b (from "Private Agents (Soho): John Robinson; Joseph Westley; Charles James Chubb. 1831-1834") and 164 (from "M. R. Boulton, J. Watt, & Co.: John Mosley; A. F. Stonebridge. 1819-1825").
The documents are arranged in two chronological sequences, as follows:
Letters. (1-167)
Copies. (168-204)
The Copies were formerly contained in a yellow paper wrapper, fixed to 169, but this has been torn off.
In the following List, the copy documents are all press-copies, unless stated otherwise. The summaries in quotation-marks are taken from the contemporary dockets. (Each document is a single piece unless otherwise stated.)
