Date30 January 1805
Description(Dated at Spring Garden.) [Though I pay every possible respect to your arguments, I am not convinced that there would be anything either improper or impolitic in the proposed application to the Privy Council, and I am moreover satisfied that it would be attended with success. If the coinage extends beyond 1200 tons—which it must, or it would have been as well to have had no coinage at all—the size of the coin must be altered. You are sacrificing £16,000, which will be of no service to the public or any individual. Besides the supply from Temple, I have ordered 4 tons per week from our mills in North Wales to be sent you by canal from Liverpool, and I hope the same quantity will be forwarded to you from Bristol. With these three strings to your bow—viz. Temple, Bristol, and Greenfield—I trust you will not want for a supply of copper.]
