Description"Particulars of Eton arrangement upon his return thither." (Directed to 36 York Terrace.)
Eton. Wednesday, May 6th. 1835.
My dear Papa,
I arrived here quite safe about a quarter to six, and with all my luggage right, I have got Thring’s room, which I did not expect, as Mrs. Holmes did not speak about it till after the holidays. I am going to get a bookcase, as soon as possible, if you have no objection. All the boys say now that Mr. Chapman is going at Election, to marry Miss Keate, and that he will then give up his pupils, and go to his living, for there are several new boys come into the house, and they all say that he told their fathers so, and that for that reason, Thoroton, a boy whom he intended to take into his house, is not coming. There are four new boys, come into the house, Farquarson, Plumber, Gosling, and Wells. They are all I believe placed in the fourth Form, The weather appears to have been finer here than in London, and I think the trees are forwarder. I have not been out in my boat yet, but I intend to try it to day, Mr. Chapman was gone to London, when I came back, and is not returned yet, I have not heard anything more about Mathematics yet. The boys are already thinking about getting their red coats, and cocked hats are visible in the hatters windows. I have not any-thing more to tell you yet, so with kind love to all, believe me to remain
Your affectionate son
M. P. W. Boulton.
