My dear Papa.
I am much obliged to you, for your kindness in procuring the books I mentioned, which with Miss Burgess’ letter I received on Friday. They have all come except two which Mr. Davis is going to send, & Hallam. The Quarterly & Edinburgh Reviews are both taken in to Pop, but there are so many others who want them for the Essay that it is difficult to procure them. However those which you have sent me will be quite sufficient without them.—I am much obliged for your permission to subscribe to a library, but I do not know of any yet where I could do so, for I am afraid that the Gibbon will already be taken from the one at Eton.—Montagu says that he has paid off all his debts & promises not to contract any new ones. He ['received the money to pay them off' has been struck through] gave your letter to Mr. Coleridge, who has spoken to me about it. I never had the least knowledge that he was in debt till your letter came, but I remember that once hearing him mention Fowlers as though he had a bill there I asked him particularly whether that was the case, & whether he had any bills, and he told me he had not; I am not certain however whether that was last half or before. I do not think however that he will ever incur them again.—The subscriptions which I mentioned are only small, so that there is no need for us to ask Mr. Coleridge for the money.—I hope Hugh William is better, I am much obliged for his loan of Lorenzo de Medici. Pray give my love to all and believe me to remain
