| Description | "Report of the party’s proceedings since I left town."
5 Devonshire Place 14 July 1838 My dear Papa Aunt Bessy will not have time to write to you to day, and so she has deputed me to tell you what we are doing. Miss Burgess went to Brighton on Thursday, and we expect her back to-day when I hope she will bring good accounts of dear Mary We were surprised on Wednesday by a visit from Mr Hodgson, who came up only for a few days on business and talked of returning home to-day. This morning we are going to Strauss’s concert, for we want to hear his waltzes once more, he has disappointed the public twice this week, owing to his numerous engagements. We had a great treat yesterday in the musical way for Mrs Anderson kindly invited us to her house yesterday morning and she & Mr Guynemer played us some of Beethoven’s Sonatas very beautifully indeed, they each know so well what the other is going to do, that they play very well together, nobody was there except her friend Miss Wilson of whom we have heard so much, and two more Ladies. London is getting much thinner, there are no longer such blocks in the Streets, and several laded waggons have gone from this street even Mr Davis says he sent you a parcel on Tuesday containing a checque and some bills, and not having heard any thing of it from you he wished us to mention it. I think we have now nearly made a finish of every thing, and take our last lessons to-day except a music lesson on Monday, the masters have not much to do now. We have been to see the Picture of the Queen painted by the American Artist, it is certainly like her, but is miserably painted, and in a very odd position, for her back is turned to us, and she is looking over her shoulder, it is intended for Philadelphia. The Coachman and Horses start early on Monday, I am afraid I shall not have time to write any more for we are going to Mrs Anderson’s and then to the concert, so that it will be post time before I should be able to add any more. I suppose Mr Jones has left you by this time. Accept dear Papa our united loves & believe me ever to remain your very affectionate daughter Anne R. Boulton
