| Description | "Cartwright satisfied with his teeth. Eton mathematical examination. Balloon in preparation."
Eton. Sunday. My dear Papa. Mr. Cartwright was quite satisfied with my teeth, & said that they had kept their places very well. After I had left him, I went to the exhibition of ancient masters in Pall Mall, & the National Gallery, both of which I liked very much. The Mathematical Examination began last Friday; Cotton is sure of getting the first prize, but it is uncertain who will get the second. I and Cotton are making a balloon to go up with the fire-works on Election Saturday, it is not nearly so large as the one sent up in the holidays, being only 10 feet instead of 20 in diameter. It is striped with pink & white stripes. I have seen Lucy, he is placed in the remove, & says that he likes Eton very much. My speech is set for Election, & besides me, 3 new boys are to be put by that time into the sixth form. I received a letter from Mr. Davis saying that he had secured 2 places for us in the Tantivy. Pray give my love to all, & believe me to remain Your affectionate son M. P. W. Boulton.
