Description"Return to Eton, and enjoyment of the railroad travelling. Met Cotton at the station. Mr. Coleridge’s accident during the vacation."

Eton. Sunday. Sept. 23.
My dear Papa.
We arrived here quite safe last night, about seven o’clock. The Birmingham train arrived at London just at its right time, about a quarter past two, & we met Mr. Davis at the station. We took our luggage to the Great Western station, & then went to the Polytechnic Institution in Regent Street, which is much the same as the Adelaide Gallery. There is a Diving-Bell there in a piece of water about 9 feet deep, which we went down in. We went off by the 6 o’clock train, in the same carriage as Cotton, whom we met at the station, & got to Slough in rather less than 40 minutes. We found very little difficulty with our luggage, & were not nearly so much tired as in coming by the Tan-tivy. Mr. Charles Wilder, the brother of Stuarts tutor, died last Thursday week of a fever caught in some marshes while travelling. Mr. Abram, brother of the Abram who was with me at Dr. Stockers is the new master.—Mr. Coleridge is quite well, but in the holidays he met with an accident which might have been serious. He was getting up a cliff looking for fossils, with his little boy Alfred, when the ground gave way, & Alfred was buried up to his chin, & Mr. Coleridge completely covered. He extricated himself however without any injury. Mr. Evans also, in climbing a cliff, fell down, & hurt his jaws & teeth considerably.—Pray give my love to all, & believe me to remain
Your affectionate son
M. P. W. Boulton
