| Description | "Mr. Vaughan agrees to receive him as a pupil. Detail of the lectures and studies. Theodore Galton’s cousin coming to Trinity in the following year."
Cambridge Friday, Oct. 25. 1839. My dear Papa, Mr. Vaughan came up on Wednesday, a day or two before he was expected, for my Gyp [i.e. his servant, or bed-maker] had told me he would not be back till Friday; Mr. Heath however went to him, & secured him for my tutor. On Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays I go to him from 12 to 1, when I have him alone, for construing, &c. & on the other days I go when I like, for composing. I was unable to see Mr. Hopkins on Tuesday at the time appointed, as our lecture was at that hour, & I have not been able to find him at home till to-day. The wine arrived quite safe last Tuesday. We have two lectures every day, a mathematical one by Mr. Heath from 9 till 10, & a classical one by Mr. Thompson from 10 till 11. I had a letter from Cotton yesterday; he is settled at Christ-Church, which he seems to like very well. Theodore Galton says that Francis is coming up to Trinity next year, which I did not know before. I hope you had a pleasant journey home, & that Miss Burgess is better, give my love to her & Montagu, & believe me to remain Your affectionate son, M. P. W. Boulton.
