Description"Acknowledgement of remittance. Explanation relative to Montagu’s leaving-money given to Dr. Hawtrey." (Directed to the Brunswick House Hotel, &c, as in 67.)

Trinity, Sunday. Dec. 15 1839.
My dear Papa.
I am very much obliged to you for your letter, which I received quite safe yesterday, but could not answer till to day there being no post on Saturday. I am very sorry to find that you are still detained in London, I hope however you will soon be able to return to Soho. I did not see the enquiry in Kitty’s letter about the leaving money, for it was written as a postscript by itself on one side, which I did not happen to turn over. I gave it to Dr. Hawtreys servant to take in to him, as several others did, but it was done up in paper on the outside of which was written “With Mr. Boultons Compts.” so that I do not think there could have been any mistake. I know that my picture has reached him, as Hotham in a letter to me says that it is hanging up in Chambers. Birch says that his Medal was sent to him in a parcel two days after the Scholarship was decided, without any application on his part, & that he does not know how I am to apply for it. I have told Metcalfe to paint the doors &c as directed in your letter. I hope you are better by this time, I myself have been quite well the whole term.
Believe me to remain
Your affectionate son
M. P. W. Boulton.
