| Description | This file contains letters received by M. R. Boulton from agents in the London office, namely Augustus Frederick Stonebridge and his successor R. F. Davis (see the Guide to Persons and Firms). All the letters were written at the office at 13 London Street, and most of them are addressed to Boulton himself, though there are a few addressed to the firm of M. R. Boulton & J. Watt, the cash agency; 21 is directed to Boulton, Watt, & Co. and 77 to Joseph Westley. On 13 Feb. 1834, Boulton offered Stonebridge the position of cashier at Soho, which the agent accepted, and on 30 Apr. an agreement was made with R. F. Davis to replace him. But Stonebridge was never to take up his new post, for he died at Colchester after a painful illness, on 31 May. The contents of this file were formerly in a portfolio (142), entitled as follows: Agents / Private London / Stonebridge / Davis / 1833 to 1834 Under M. R. Boulton’s arrangement, this portfolio was filed in Box K. II (“Special Correspondents—Partners and Agents”). |
