| Description | The contents of this file were formerly in a portfolio entitled: H2 Cornish Miners contest This is the title recorded in the contemporary Index to Correspondence and Documents (pages 10 and 11), but the portfolio was subsequently discarded, probably while the Papers were in the custody of the Assay Office. Under Matthew Robinson Boulton’s arrangement, the file was placed in Box H. III. It is not known in which Box it arrived at the Assay Office in 1921. The original arrangement of the documents is for the most part unknown. For the sake of clarity, two groups of documents are now separated from the main sequence, namely, various Tables, mainly concerning the price of copper, and the documents described under the heading “Disbursements on Account of a Copper Delegation from Birmingham to London,” which were formerly in a separate packet. It possible that the latter were transferred to the present file from elsewhere by the Assay Office, as the corresponding entry was added to the Assay Office’s catalogue after it was first typed; but their origin is unknown. Each of the three sequences of documents is arranged in chronological order, but many of the dates assigned are conjectural, particularly those of the memoranda 12-20. |
