Description(Directed to Soho Mint.)
Shipston Saturday nt ye 6 April
Pray desire Mr Kucker to send me 2 Plaster impressions of the new Concave half peny.
I wish him to do a new die less concave & a greater likeness—I think if he casts plaster on this Magnifying Glass that impression may be sufficiently Concave. [Marginal note: Let ye old Elabratory have wash boards round the bottom Pray tell whether I struck Willms. Money in Collers or not.]
By a letter I receivd this day just before my departure it appears that Wms. is takeing pains to decry the execution of my Coin & to say the truth the dies have not been so well polished lately & that is a matter of more consequence than any difference of Wages & therefore tell Bill Walker he must continue to polish them ’till I return & that they must be better done and let Mr Bush know my sentiments on that head & beg he will not let them be used too long & likewise inform Jerom who sets the Dies.
You must make a serious remonstrance with Heaton about the forging of the dies it being a of great consequence & must instantly be corrected. Pray tell Harley the Millwright that I desire he & James will work late & early to get the other 4 presses at Work before Mayday, that they shall be paid for their over work & I will also give Harley 3 Guineas besides if all the 8 presses work on May day but not otherwise.
Tell Mr Southern that I wish the Balls of the 4 new Flys to be adopted as follows viz 2 of them for pence one for strikeing ½ pence of 36 in ye lb & to do 1lb ¾ pr Minute or 63 pieces & the 4th. press to be adopted to the striking of 1 lb of farthings or 72 pr Minute.
Yours sincerly
M: Boulton
