| Description | Soho August 24th 1799 M’r John Nicholls Sir, I understand a Difference subsists between You & my Friend Harley, which he is called upon by official Notice to settle forthwith. It is not easy to ascertain the Merits of a Cause on which one Side only has been heard. I therefore confess myself at present uninform’d on the Subject—however as I consider it the Duty of Friends to interpose their Good Offices on such Occasions I beg leave to suggest to you the Propriety of leaving the Business to the Decision of a Friend or two chose on each Side. If this Idea meet your Approbation I shall be glad to hear from you on the Subject, if not please favor me with a Line stating the Kind & Degree of Compensation that you consider yourself entitled to & I will in either Case endeavour to bring the Matter to a fair & amicable Conclusion which Mr Harley has authorised me to do. Waiting the Favr of your reply I remain Sir Your most obt huml Servt Wm Cheshire (There are no Letters or Copies, O) |
