TitleCorrespondence 1803
LevelSub Series
Date1803
DescriptionThis file does not appear in the Inventory compiled by Cheshire at the time of his departure from Soho on 15 Feb. 1812; it was probably passed to William D. Brown to be kept at hand for reference. Under M. R. Boulton’s arrangement the file was put into Box D2 (“Household Vouchers and Correspondence, 1796 to 1803”).

While the Matthew Boulton Papers were in the custody of the Assay Office, most of the contents of this file were transferred to other parts of the collection (see the list of Old References), and thus the original arrangement has been obscured; indeed it is not clear whether the correspondence for this year formed a discrete file, or whether, perhaps, they were combined with that of the preceding year. Following the pattern of the later files, the documents have now been grouped alphabetically by the first letter of the correspondent’s name, and are arranged in chronological order within these groups.

The copy letters are all press-copies.
