At an early stage of M’r Boulton,s long & severe illness the Proprietors of this Manufactory found it expedient to publish the inclosed Card; since which, for the sake of consistency, it has been necessary to make the regulation general, even to the preclusion of Mr Boulton’s most intimate friends. You will therefore perceive the impossibility of complying with the desire expressed in your note of the 2d inst, which came here last evening.
The Faculty attending Mr Boulton having particularly desired that all epistolary correspondence might be witheld from him, you will of course excuse the circumstance of receiving this reply from the hand of an Amanuensis. I have the honor to be
