Description(Press-copy of an original in the hand of William Cheshire, signed by Boulton.)
Dear Sir,
I have been so strongly urged on the subject of this application by William and James Pemberton, two workmen who have been many years in my employ, that I at length yield to their entreaties; but I would not wish to influence you on the occasion if the object in view militates against the established Militia Regulations.
Their younger Brother, Sampson Pemberton, has been about 4 years in the Regiment you command, and as his services at home, in the business he has been brought up to, would be essentially useful to his Brothers, they beg leave to submit their case, through me, to you; humbly soliciting your good offices in obtaining, if practicable, the discharge of the youth in question, upon providing at their own expence, an able-bodied man to replace him.
If the proposed substitution can be effected consistently with my prior suggestion, and without any material injury to the Service, or inconvenience to yourself, it will render great kindness to the applicant Parties, and, at the same time, confer an obligation on, Dear Sir, your very obedient Servant,
M. Robinson Boulton
Soho, May 21st, 1807.
PS. As I am but just recovering from an attack of fever, I trust you will excuse me for having employed the hand of an Amanuensis.
