The medals intended for presentation to the surviving seamen and marines of Lord Nelson’s Fleet were transmitted to their Commanding Officers for distribution. To have produced medals worthy of presentation to the Officers themselves would have required the use of precious metals, which ‘ would have required the possession of wealth, to which I have no pretensions.’ |
