DescriptionSoho, near Birmingham, December 9th, 1809.
Sir,
As you were so good as to interest yourself on behalf of your late Cook, Elizabeth White, by writing to Mr. Boulton in consequence of his advertisement, and of transmitting a favorable character of her, I trust you will excuse me for the liberty of again addressing you on the occasion.
Two letters have been written to invite her to come over here, the first stating that if any obstacle should arise to prevent the proposed engagement with her from taking place, that the expences of her journey would be allowed her, and the second stating that in all events her expences would be defrayed; but no reply has been received to either letter, and it is conjectured that the disappointment may have proceeded from her removal from “Repton near Burton upon Trent,” where we understood the letters to her shou’d be addressed.
In this dilemma will you allow me to request that if Elizabeth White has returned to Barton, that you will be so obliging as to have the contents of this letter communicated to her and to beg that she will transmit a reply respecting her intentions without delay, as other applications are now pending.
Trusting that your liberality will pardon the trouble given you on this occasion, I remain, respectfully, Sir, your most obedient Servant,
Wm. Cheshire
Simeon Birch, Esqr.,
Barton,
near Lichfield.
