| Description | Fire clay is more liable to warp in burning than common red brick clay, and the colour of it, when burned, is very unpleasant and “would give disgust in a garden or pleasure ground.” The smoothed and polished quarries made of a fine cherry colour would be the cheapest and most appropriate choice for the purpose, but Hill & Waldron do not make them; Oldbury, or its neighbourhood, would be the most likely place to obtain them. They will, however, make the fire clay, if desired. (Signed for Hill & Waldron. Cf. the letter to Hill & Waldron, 12 Apr.) |
