Prescot Nursery,
29th October 1810.
Mr. Bolton.
Sir,
The melancholy circumstance of your gardener’s death has given me much concern. He appear’d to me an intelligent good gardener, and I doubt not would have made you a valuable servant.
The list Mr. Cheshire has handed me, of fruit trees, I have perused. I had previously fixed with your late gardener some few alterations: there are a few better peaches and nectarines than any named, which we had agreed to alter. He told me he would send me the number wanted when he got back to Soho, and leave the selection of sorts to me. If you think well of doing this, I shall take care to send you the best kinds, including most of those enumerated, and adding some more excellent. Your favors will be much esteem’d by, sir, your obedient servant,
William Butler
