| Description | Flats in Lee Crescent were opened by the Middlemore Homes in April 1957 to provide residential accommodation for families in need of rehabilitation. The buildings occupied were numbers 43-45 Lee Crescent, formerly Crowley Orphanage for Poor Girls. A Lee Crescent Sub-Committee was formed in November 1956 by the General Committee of the Middlemore Homes to oversee the establishment and management of the Lee Crescent flats. Meetings of the Lee Crescent Sub-Committee were held monthly and matters dealt with included alterations to the property, staffing and reports from the House Committee. Members of the Lee Crescent Sub-Committee at its formation included Mr. E. Peter Kenrick, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cadbury, Mrs. Christopher Cadbury, Mrs. Ransome, Mrs. Stacey Waddy, Ms. Kydd and Mrs. Malins. A House Committee made up of ladies was formed in April 1957 to deal with domestic matters in relation to the flats including the admission of families and the progress of families in residence. Members of the House Committee at its formation included Mrs. Christopher Cadbury, Mrs. Paul Cadbury, Ms. Kydd, Ms. Ransome, Mrs. Waddy and Mrs. Malins. In December 1964 families were moved from Lee Crescent to a new property called the Middlemore Centre at Speedwell Road. The committee then became the Sub-committee of the Middlemore Centre, Speedwell Road. |
