| Description | This series of correspondence was initially created by Mr. George Jackson, Secretary of the Middlemore Homes between 1882 and 1924. It comprises letters from Mr. W.S. Ray and Mrs. Ellen Ray, managers of the Middlemore receiving and distribution home in Canada, to representatives of the Middlemore Homes in Birmingham, England. Letters for the period 1916 - 1919 are arranged in bundles by year, although those for 1918 are missing from the sequence and do not appear to have survived. Letters for 1920 - 1923 are together in one bundle. After the retirement of Mr. Jackson, his successor Mr. Robert Plenderleith, continued to maintain the series until 1930. After 1930, the majority of correspondence with the Canadian managers can be found amongst the general correspondence files maintained by Mr. Plenderleith, catalogued as MS 517/A/5/3. |
