- a list of children emigrated by the Middlemore Homes between 1923 and 1935 who have been removed from Overseas Settlement Office after-care lists due to their age or number of years residence in Canada/Australia (Fair condition) - 'Canadian Home' containing correspondence between Mr. Robert Plenderleith and Mrs. Ellen Ray, Lady Superintendent of the Canadian Middlemore Home 'Fairview' in Halifax, Mr. Eldon Ray (son of Mrs. Ellen Ray) and Miss M. Pringle regarding the management of the Canadian Home and the after-care of individual children. Also correspondence between Robert Plenderleith, Mr. W.H. Studd Chartered Accountant (Halifax) and with solicitors concerning the title deeds to the Canadian Home 'Fairview'. 15 November 1933 - 18 December 1935 (Good condition) - 'Children's Act, 1932' containing schedules of particulars submitted to the Home Office by the Middlemore Homes under the Children and Young Persons Act 1933, rough notes and calculations and correspondence with the City of Birmingham Public Health department concerning the requirements of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933 and the Children and Young Persons Act 1932. Includes references to named children within the homes. 15 November 1933 - 24 August 1935 (Good condition) - 'Child Emigration Society' containing correspondence between Mr. Plenderleith and Gordon Green, Secretary of the Child Emigration Society (Fairbridge) concerning the emigration of named children to Australia, including information regarding medical examinations, maintenance payments and the behaviour of children. Also correspondence between Mr. Plenderleith and Paul Cadbury on child migration and correspondence between Miss Sweeney, Matron of the Middlemore Homes and Gordon Green concerning Fairbridge children accommodated at the Middlemore Homes (This correspondence was written whilst Mr. Plenderleith was absent visiting the Fairbridge Farm School in Western Australia in 1935). 01 January 1934 - 19 December 1935 (Fair condition) - 'Oversea Settlement Committee' containing correspondence between Mr. Robert Plenderleith and Mr. F. Plant, Secretary of the Oversea Settlement Department concerning a report produced by the Inter-Departmental Committee on Migration Policy. 07 September 1934 - 15 October 1934 (Good condition) |
