DescriptionIncludes letters from Mr. Ray to Mr. Cadbury and copy letters from Mr. Cadbury to Mr. Ray. Also copies of some correspondence between Mr. Robert Plenderleith, Secretary of the Middlemore Homes, and Mr. Ray and some presscuttings. The correspondence concerns school education for Middlemore children in Canada, payment of wages to children after their 14th or 16th birthdays and discipline within the Middlemore Homes. The correspondence also discusses changes to immigration legislation in Nova Scotia in 1926 restricting the immigration of younger children and the actions of Canadian politicians and immigration officials, in particular Judge E. H. Blois, Superintendent of Neglected and Delinquent Children in Nova Scotia, Mr. W. J. Egan, Deputy Minister of Immigration and Colonization, Mr. J. A. Murray, Superintendent of Industry and Immigration for New Brunswick, Mr. G. Bogue Smart, Supervisor of Immigration for the Department of Immigration and Colonization, Mr. F. C. Blair, Secretary of the Department of Immigration, Ottawa, and Premier Rhodes, in relation to the work of the child migration societies. The file also includes a letter from Mr. Cadbury to Mrs. Ellen Ray expressing sympathy on the death of Mr. Ray (November 1931) and a reply from Mrs. Ray to Mr. Cadbury.
