| Description | This sub-series consists of case files for children in the care of the Middlemore Homes. The files are numbered and there are gaps in the number sequence indicating that some case files are missing. The case file sequence begins at file number 4231 and earlier case files do not appear to have survived. The majority of the case files relate to children who were emigrated to Canada or Australia in conjunction with Fairbridge Farm Schools. A few of the case files relate to children who remained in the care of the Middlemore Homes in England. The amount of information relating to each child varies. Case files typically contain correspondence between the Middlemore Homes and other agencies involved in the care and emigration of the children, progress reports produced by the Farm Schools and a typed summary of the case. The typed case summaries include brief details of the child's family circumstances, the child's date of birth, the date of the child's admission to the Middlemore Homes and, if applicable, the date of the child's emigration. The progress reports produced by the Farm Schools in Canada and Australia typically include notes on the child's behaviour, education and health. |
