| Description | Class X was started at Severn Street Adult School by Joel Cadbury in November 1855. It was originally a junior class for teenage boys. As the boys became adults, the class moved to the upper room at the school but Class X soon outgrew its accomodation and was transferred to Oozell Street Board Schools. The class continued there until July 1888, when Joel Cadbury moved from Birmingham to Sutton Coldfield. W.D. Jeffrey took his place as teacher of the class.
In July 1902, a new branch of Class I Severn Street Adult School was started at Floodgate Street Medical Mission. Joel Cadbury became involved in the work of the Severn Street Adult Schools once more and was President of this new class for a number of years. |
