| Description | The Visiting Committee was appointed to consider the cases of those not attending classes and to appoint visitors who would ascertain the reason for a Scholar's absence at the Early Morning School. Each Division was represented on the Committee and the Teacher or Secretary of the Division could present a case to the Committee for any Scholar living in distress. Satisfactory reasons for non-attendance included being unwell, serious illness, illness in the family, having no clothes, being out of town, or being overworked. Where appropriate, the Committee issued such individuals with grants from the Benevolence, Widows and Christmas Beef Funds, for which it undertook collections and fundraising activities such as football matches. Unsatisfactory reasons for non-attendance including not getting up in time, indifference, and no excuse. Each meeting included brief minutes on visits, with the name of the visitor, the Scholar being visited, an assessment of their health if appropriate, whether a grant was given and how much the grant was for. A printed programme with rules and regulations is inserted at the front of the volume, along with a completed 'Visiting Report' form for Class XV Severn Street Schools, Highgate Branch, n.d. [1920s]. |
