25th anniversary celebrations to be lunch at Queen's Hotel on 15 February 1938 with reception at the university (07 December 1937);
Company Secretary had received an offer of a large top floor room adjoining the theatre - would make a good rehearsal room for a drama school and use by wardrobe (and give up Hinckley Street) (19 April 1939);
After negotiations it was decided to turn down offer of adjoining premises because of cost (27 June 1939);
Government regulations that all places of entertainment to be closed because of the start of war - including The Rep (04 September 1939);
Note that there had not been any directors meetings because of the war but they had been in contant attendance at the theatre. Theatre re-opened on 07 October 1939 (09 January 1940);
Attendances at the theatre had fallen heavily because of air raids and lunch time revues had replaced straight plays. Theatre closed on 13 December 1940 (02 January 1941);

Theatre had been closed until December 1941 when the Travelling Repertory Theatre put on productions with the agreement of the The Rep (17 November 1942);
Note that Miss Richards had been appointed full time superintendent of the school in November 1943 and that there had been a great improvement (previous meetings had expressed concerns about the school) (02 March 1944). |
