DescriptionThe Girls' First Day and Evening Schools held at Ann Street and Severn Street in the 1850s comprised around two hundred and fifty scholars and twenty teachers. As their existing accommodation was insufficient, at the end of 1859 Friends decided to purchase a piece of land in Upper Priory, which was funded by subscriptions from Friends. An appeal for additional subscriptions enabled a suitable building to be constructed which could be used as a school, as well as to rent it out for other activities. Additional rooms were added in 1889-90. Priory School Trustees and a committee were appointed by those who had contributed subscriptions to administer the maintenance and use of the building.
