| Description | Sheltered housing was already being provided by the Society of Friends and Birmingham Teachers' Benevolent Fund in Bournville, but both organisations were concerned about the lack of availability of full care provision for the elderly, while Bournville Village Trust, which had a suitable site for the scheme, was similarly concerned about care provision for its elderly tenants. Sellywood House was built in Sellywood Road on a site adjoining the Birmingham Teachers' Benevolent Fund sheltered housing block, Queen Mother Court. Each of the organisations involved nominated two Trustees, and a local Management Committee made up an equal number of representatives from each partner organisation was responsible for the day-to-day running of the home. Each partner could nominate residents for one third of the rooms in the home, from the total of 30-40 rooms. At the time of cataloguing (2016), the home is still in operation. See SF/2/1/1/4/26 and SF/2/1/1/32/4 for additional records relating to the elderly. |
