LevelSub Series
Date1987 - 2004
DescriptionThis project originated as a project between Staffordshire and Warwickshire Monthly Meetings. Started in 1987, it aimed to encourage the study of peace and disarmament issues through primary and secondary education, work in partnerships to organise and deliver workshops and provide guidance and advice for schools, FE colleges and other educational groups on issues related to peace education, and encourage the development of skills in interpersonal conflict resolution within the school curriculum. A Peace Education Organiser was elected and a Steering Committee, made up of Friends from Staffordshire and Warwickshire Monthly Meetings, was established with responsibility for overseeing the project and supporting the Organiser.

Due to the success of the project over the first three years, it was decided to make it more permanent so that work could be continued in across the West Midlands and educational resources could be developed with a regional focus. Now a charity, mainly funded by Central England Quakers, it is known as the West Midland Quaker Peace Education Project (WMQPEP) and has its own staff, with freelance trainers who deliver workshops, courses and training to young people across the West Midlands on peace, conflict resolution and peer mediation.
