TitleWarwickshire Monthly Meeting Sheltered Housing Working Party survey of sheltered housing needs of Friends in the Monthly Meeting
LevelItem
Date1985
DescriptionIn 1985 a working party was appointed to establish the existing and future needs of older members of the Meeting as Warwickshire Monthly Meeting believed there was a growing demand for retirement homes but was not clear what form these should take. A survey was drawn up and circulated by Overseers to members thought to be 54 years old and over. The Working Party issued 557 questionnaires and received 325 replies, of which 291 were analysed. It concluded that there did not seem to be sufficient demand to justify building additional accommodation at that time and that future needs of elder members could not be assessed as unforeseen changes in circumstances might result in different preferences. It suggested that if additional accommodation were to be built, it should be in the form of a Full Care Home. It also suggested that the Home Call Care system (whereby individuals continued to live in their own homes but wore an electronic device which allowed them to call for emergency help should it be needed) was an alternative system of care for the elderly which had many advantages.
