TitleNominations Committee
LevelSub Series
Date1953 - 2003
DescriptionThe Nominations Committee holds an important function within the Central England Area Monthly Meeting as Friends who undertake work on behalf of the Quarterly/General, Monthly and Local/Preparative Meetings are appointed on its recommendation. This includes all Monthly Meeting appointments, including Clerk, members of committees, representatives for Meeting for Sufferings and other Quaker bodies. It also nominates Friends as visitors to those applying for membership of the Religious Society of Friends.

Membership of the Nominations Committee is drawn from Local Meetings. Overseers from each of these nominate two representatives who hold the position for three years. Members of the Committee need to have a good knowledge of the duties undertaken by each role and of Friends, but it is acceptable for Committee members to make discreet, confidential enquiries about an individual's suitability and availability for a role. The Committee draws up a list of names of 3 or 4 Friends for each appointment to be made, and decides on the order in which each Friend should be approached, before sharing out the task of approaching a Friend. When a Friend agrees for his/her name to be put forward, the names are then taken to Monthly Meeting for appointment. The names of those nominated appear on the 'records sheet' which is part of the agenda for each Monthly Meeting. See SF/2/1/1/1/5 for these.
