Date1964 - c.1968
DescriptionThe Midlands Friends Liaison Peace Committee was appointed in September 1964 after two adhoc conferences earlier in that year in Birmingham and at Woodbrooke. Its role was to organise conferences to disseminate information and promote discussion across the Midlands region about peace issues and disarmament campaigns. Topics of the conferences included international peace keeping, Vietnam, the settlement of disputes without resort to violence, 'UN Peace-Keeping Operatives and the use of force', 'How can you non-violently quell a riot?', 'Towards a contemporary Quaker view of Peace'. The Committee also produced regular newsletters of peace activities taking place across the Midlands and considered the options for producing a film or shorter documentaries to disseminate their message about peace.

The conferences were attended by Friends from Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Gloucestershire Herefordshire, Radnorshire and South Wales.
