| Description | A new style of certificate has been in use from 1976 onwards, containing three sheets of paper, two of which are carbon copies. For certificates of transfer of membership, the white copy is sent to the Monthly Meeting to which the Friend is transferring; the blue copy is sent to the local meeting's overseers by the Clerk or Assistant Clerk of the Monthly Meeting for advice on whether the certificate should be accepted; the green copy is retained as a permanent record.
For certificates of acceptance of transfer of membership, the accepting Monthly Meeting sends the white copy to the Monthly Meeting from which the certificate of transfer was received; the blue copy is sent to the overseers of the local meeting to which the transferred Friend will be attached; the green copy is retained as a permanent record.
Once the original Monthly Meeting has received the white copy of the certificate of acceptance of transfer of membership from the accepting Monthly Meeting, it is attached to the green copy of the certificate of transfer of membership and retained permanently. This series of records is made up of these matched up certificates and provides the following information: the name and new address of the Friend, the name of the issuing Monthly Meetings, the date the certificate was issued and the signature of the issuing clerk. |
