TitleRedditch Preparative Meeting
LevelSeries
Date1940 - 2005
DescriptionAn allowed meeting was set up in 1937 and it was decided by Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire Quarterly Meeting and the Western Quarterly Meeting (comprising meetings in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Wales) that it would be part of Warwickshire North Monthly Meeting as it was close to the county border, despite being located in Worcestershire. In 2009, Redditch meeting amalgamated with Barnt Green to form Barnt Green and Redditch Local Meeting in 2009.

It should be noted that there had been a meeting previously in Redditch, dating from around 1660, which was part of Worcestershire Quarterly Meeting. There was no meeting house until 1708, but by the 1760s the number of Friends attending meetings had declined and the meeting was closed in 1766. The building was sold in 1820.

A new meeting house was constructed in 1974 and was part of a Friends' project to establish a housing scheme for single parent families run by Redditch Friends Housing Trust, and for a day nursery to be run on the premises by Hereford and Worcester County Council. Friends' Trusts granted the County Council a licence for this purpose. Both the meeting house and the housing complex were designed by Selby Clewer, architect for Bournville Village Trust. By the 1990s, the day nursery had evolved into a family resource centre.

See SF/2/1/1/10/6 for property records relating to Redditch meeting house and day nursery/family resource centre.

See SF/3 for a description of the functions of the Local/Preparative Meeting.
