TitleSunday School Congregational Society
LevelSub Series
Date1872 - 1877
DescriptionOn 28 October 1872 a meeting was held at the Boy's Sunday School but was adjourned until 18 November following prolonged discussion. The meeting eventually appointed a society for 'the maintenance of a closer union between the Church of the Messiah & the members of the Sunday School & other institutions connected with the Church; & to encourage regular attendance at public worship'. Anyone attached to the congregation, the Sunday Schools or other institutions connected with the Church of the Messiah above the age of 17 were eligible as members, with any nominations sent to the society's secretary for consideration. Meetings were held in an ad hoc manner as and when the committee determined. An essay or address was usually read at the beginning of each meeting on any matter of interest concerning the church and its related institutions, after which arrangements were made for practical work to be undertaken by the society, such as visiting sick scholars and members of the society or spreading knowledge of the church.
