| Description | Latin Bible marked 'Tho[ma]s Lee 1738'. A note on the inside front cover reads 'This Book was in the Old Meeting house Birmingham when the same was destroyed in the Riots on 14th July 1791 & some Boy having taken it up during the demolition of the Building, it was, from the name of my Father, being written in the Title Page restored to Tho[ma]s Lee Jan[uar]y 7 1792'. Notes in the Priestley Papers would suggest that the bible formed a part of that collection, since much of the correspondence in that archive relates to Thomas Lee, a Birmingham based lawyer who was involved with the church around the time of the Priestley Riots (see UC 2/15 below). Nonetheless, the item has been retained in the order in which it was originally catalogued and boxed following its deposit at Birmingham Archives and Heritage. |
