| Title | Letter from Mr Henry Bell, Gray's Inn, London to Mr Thomas Lee at the Wool Pack Inn, Warwick |
| Level | Item |
| Date | 31/03/1792 |
| Description | Mr Bell is happy that Mr Lee secured a verdict for Mr Ryland and hopes for the same result in Mr Taylor's case. He complains of the juries showing empathy with the rioters by reducing the amount of damages but acknowledges the judge is behaving fairly. He hopes the judge will prevent Mr Harding from using inappropriate language in Dr Priestley's trial. The poor behaviour of the defendants' surveyors also comes under discussion. Mr Bell ends by advising Mr Lee to instruct the counsel to require an account from the juries of their decision making process. |
