| Description | The only surviving records relating the churchwardens is a collection of papers of Edward Corn, a Warden of the New Meeting during the period 1777 - 1832 [ZZ 32, 387323]. The records of the Vestry Committee (see UC 2/3/3) and the printed church reports (see UC 2/5/2) do frequently name the churchwardens amongst the other church officials, of which, as in the case of Anglican churches, two were appointed, with their duties largely similar to those of their Church of England counterparts. The duties and work of the churchwardens of the New Meeting and Church of the Messiah are frequently alluded to in the minutes of the Vestry Committee (see UC 2/3/3/1). |
