| Description | The minutes include an account of the business of a meeting Vestry Committee of Sunday, 10 July 1791, immediately prior to the riots that began on 14 July 1791 (see UC 2/15). The minutes of the proceeding meeting of 2 August 1791 draw attention to 'the present damaged state of our Congregational affairs' and 'the grievous persecution their excellent Pastor [Joseph Priestley] is now suffering in consequence of his great zeal & uncommon abilities in promoting the cause of truth', with subsequent meetings going on to describe the physical devastation inflicted on the church and nearby property by the rioters. |
