| Description | A Vestry Committee was more formally appointed in 1780, although there were earlier meetings of the committee, which seemed to have met conjointly with the Trustees of the New Meeting House (see UC 2/3/3/1 and UC 2/1/1/1). To begin with meetings were held in private houses belonging to members of the Vestry, but were later based at the church as more suitable accommodation was built. The function of the New Meeting and Church of the Messiah vestry was largely identical to that of any Anglican church, and its functions and activities documented in the records are summarised in catalogue record UC 2/3/3/1. |
