Date1981 - 1986
DescriptionCorrespondence file containing correspondence, minutes, leaflets, agendas, programmes, circulars, periodicals and funding requests relating to the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: NCVO began in 1919 as the National Council of Social Services, following a legacy from Edward Vivian Birchall who died of wounds in France during World War I. Since this time NCVO continues to support the sector and speak to government against an ever-changing social background. Many now well-established voluntary organisations started out as projects within NCVO, including Age Concern, Citizens Advice Bureaux and Community Matters. During the early 1980s NCVO expanded its work on the UK's multi-racial society and its positive implications for society as a whole. Nature of support: In 1983 the Trust approved two annual grants of £2,500 for the financial years 1984 and 1985. This offer was later extended to 1986. Minutes: B&GSCT 5802, B&GSCT 6397. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered '20/6/2'.
