| AdminHistory | The Charities Information Service (CIS) was formed following a series of discussions during the mid-1970s as the Charities Council in 1977. The CIS aims to, 1) keep an index of Birmingham charities up to date, 2) keep under review the work of charities in the area and needs to be met, 3) assist small charities to obtain schemes from the Charity Commissioners, so as to utilise the endowments and income to the best advantage, 4) assist the Charity Commissioners in respect of all proposed new charities in the area, 5) assist the Charity Commissioners in respect of any complaint with regard to charities in the area, 6) provide an information centre for grant giving charities and service charities, 7) encourage charities with similar objects to work closely together, and 8) liaise with the Charity Commissioners, the public welfare services and other voluntary services, in order to assist the work of charitable organisations in the city. |
